How To Create Pretty Vignettes

One thing I get asked a lot is, "How do you create vignettes and group together items?". It never really even occurred to me before that I do tend to group items together. A couple of years ago, I started picking up my momma's old Country Living and decor magazines. This was way before I even had a house to decorate or knew the smallest thing about home decor, and I read some advice that has truly stuck with me to this very day.

The article talked about grouping items into groupings of 3. So say, you have a set of books, some candlesticks and a boxwood.. the books are one grouping, the candles another grouping, and the boxwood another grouping. So to this day when I'm decorating I try to stick with that general idea, however, I do tend to group more items together, as long as you stick with even numbers, you should find most things to be more visually appealing.

Stick with these general guidelines:

It's always good when decorating a coffee table or other table to have a "base" for instance, something to group items together in, like a basket, or tray, crate.. anything you choose! I've used tobacco baskets, tulip crates, baskets and dough bowls as my base before.

1. Something to add height -
(ie: Candle Sticks, Tall Boxwoods, Pillar Holders, Cotton Stems in a vase etc.)
2. Something to add depth - or point of interest.
(Old books, Flowers, A clock etc.)
3. Something to add texture -
(Woven Place mats, Table Runners, etc.)

If you notice on almost every single table, I have a table runner, or charger, woven place mat etc. This is because in general I believe layering is important with decorating and I tend to do it often, Just as grouping does, Layering allows you to create a cozier look.

I've put together some of my favorite items to help you get started with creating your own little vignettes!
1. // Rustic Tray- BASE
2. // Aqua Clock- Point of Interest
3. //Terra Cotta Vase- To add height
4. //Sage Bush - Point of Interest
5. //Tobacco Baskets - BASE

I hope you all leave inspired and ready to create some pretty vignettes of your own!! It's something that should be fun, and even I've failed several times at grouping items together so don't get discouraged, if something doesn't look right, then move things around until they do!

Incorporating Farmhouse Style in the Garden!

Ah, summertime.

I love it! Don't you? Well, I love it when it actually feels like summer, and summer it does not feel like here in the upper north east. But it's still the last week of school for Nick so that's exciting, and we have all sorts of fun things planned for the summer. Like working on some new house projects and planting some new gardens. HA. I kid, I kid. Kind of.

I just recently got interested in gardening and yard work, I guess that's what happens when you get older? But it's so relaxing and peaceful and I so look forward to watching the different things bloom and change as the months pass.

Outdoor decor is just as fun (maybe even a little more so!) then regular home decor if ya ask me!

I was so excited about all my recent finds for the yard I wanted to share with you! I'm dying over the farmhouse goodness that will overlap out to the backyard spaces! Just check some of these things out and see what you think?
I'm going to tag each item below and leave a link on where you can get everything! I know ya'll will love these goodies as much as me!!!!
1.// Farm Fresh Sign- Can be used indoors or OUT!! I'm such a sucker for old signs, and signs of all kind. I can never ever pass up a good one and this one is awesome!
2.//Outdoor Bistro Set- I bought one of these to put by our pond. It's so chic and yet rustic. I'm obsessed.
3.// Outdoor Bike- DYING. No seriously. HOW FREAKING CUTE IS THIS? I want one for our front yard flower bed. I just love everything about it.
4.// Vintage Garden Tools- Really? DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN? These would be so cute in outdoor summer and spring vignettes also! Great tray decor;)
5.// Windmill- I mean. I'm obsessed with windmills so this one is pretty obvious. It's huge too and will add such flair to your farmhouse style. I think I need 3.

What do you guys think about these finds? Do you incorporate your style to outside spaces? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Tablescape Tips & Summer Entertaining

It's a well known fact that here at The Glam Farmhouse we entertain.

A lot.

So when I stumble across a fun new product to try I get sort of excited! Especially when its something that could make things easier for me when it comes to preparing fun meals and food.

I've been learning to cook on the grill and lemme tell ya, it ain't as easy as it looks. I mean, it's not hard by any means, but it can be a little time consuming, it could also be relaxing so, I guess it just depends on my mood;)

Today I'm using the new KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub, and making a yummy sweet honey BBQ sauce! It will BLOW YOUR MIND, how easy this is!

It's literally as easy as 1, 2 & 3. Just dump your mix in a bowl, pour in your liquid (I used Coca-Cola®) and mix it all up to create a yummy sauce. Their are several different combinations on the back of the box to get you started!
The possibility is seriously endless with the creations you can make! (PS. don't mind my weird alien hands in the picture)

A tip when grilling chicken wings or chicken in general, cook on the opposite side of the fire and brush oil on the grates so that the chicken doesn't stick. I cooked mine about 2 minutes per side, for a total of 15 minutes.
Now is also the time I'm going to tell you I really suck at tablescapes.
I'm just not good at them.
But I love to put them together occasionally, and it feels especially fancy when the whole family sits down outside around a well dressed table. Nick even asked me if we were celebrating something! HA.
Just life babe, we're just celebrating life.
Here are some things I learned about creating fun tablescapes and the basics you need for creating them.

1. Some good placemats, I like texture. I found these at where else but Home Goods. Sometimes it's hard to find more then one or 2, it actually took me a couple of months to find 4. So don't get bummed if you can't find them all at once.
You can always mix up with chargers too.
2. You always want a good tray that makes it easy to transport food and drinks from inside and outside the house. This one was actually under $10 at Wal-Mart.
3.DON'T USE GLASS or breakable china, my wine cups and plates are made of a really thick plastic (also from Home Goods) They are really sturdy and feel like real plates, but they aren't breakable (I mean maybe they are, but you'd have a tough time breaking them)
4. Some fresh flowers always make things feel extra fancy and special. They can instantly dress up and otherwise boring space. I snagged mine at my local grocery store but I've been known to cut some peonies from the yard and stick them in mason jars a couple of times.
5. Summer Entertaining should be fun and never stressful! I always make a meal plan before we have a big event, I don't like to try new recipes when I know we're having company because so many things could go wrong! So sticking with the basics, like chicken wings, duh. Keeps everyone happy and keeps me sane. #winning!

It's really not hard. Promise.

Do ya'll like to create tablescapes? What's your favorite summer entertaining recipe? I'd love to hear from you guys! Leave a comment below or let's chat on Insta! I LOVE to hear from ya'll!!! Each and every comment means so much!

Fixer Upper Style Bedroom Inspiration

Yes, yes. The rumors are true. I'm itching for a change and one of the changes I want to make, is in my master bedroom. While I've always loved my deep purple walls, and silver accents, I feel like it's just something I've outgrown. My style has changed. When this happens it's always hard, because Nick doesn't understand my urges and desire to change things. Especially when something is "okay" as it is.

So kill me, okay.

Here are some items I've been eyeing up for some inspiration for the new bedroom! I'd love to hear what ya'll think!

1.// Black Arched Mirror: love these mirrors!! I'm wanting 2 to create symmetry on each side of our bed. I think the black will look great with our tan headboard.
2.//Chunky White Lamps: Love the texture of these gorgeous lamps!! The pretty white color with neutral grey lampshades are equally gorgeous, don't you agree?!
3.// Magnolia Wreath: Just because, okay.
4.//Scallop Table: Yes, these were seen on Fixer Upper and YES. They are fabulous. I've been crushing on them for months and can't wait to make us of them in this new space!
{Affiliate Links Above}

I'm thinking of Wood Smoke Gray walls or even something more neutral, like cream. We will see where the drawing board takes us! I can't wait to share the journey with you guys!!

Beach, Please {Beachy Farmhouse Decor}

It's been such a brutal and looooong winter for us Marylanders. I'm so excited to say that Summer is almost here along with warmer temps! Summer is so fun when it comes to decorating because we all like to break out the lighter colors and incorporate some fun and fresh new things into our decor.

Years ago, when I first started playing around with decorating our first home, I questioned my "style" I like to say that I'm a mixture of all different types of styles, but that I was drawn to the color blue because of how it reminds me of the beach and ocean! It was a subtle way to add some beachiness into our little farmhouse.

Which is what inspired today's post! I've gathered up some of my "Beachy Farmhouse" decor in hopes that some of these things inspire you! The soft blues and light and airy color schemes work well in any home!

1. // These White Washed Lanterns add the perfect touch of beachy farmhouse to any space, but would look extra pretty on a front porch or in an entryway! I love lanterns so much and have a ton! I move them around all the time and they are great to use year round!

2.// I'm crushing on sage something fierce right now! It's so light and fun and the perfect way to finish off a vignette! These little Sage Pots are so perfect to achieve that beachy look, while still sticking to your farmhouse roots!

3.// BEACH, PLEASE. How cute is this little "beach" pillow? I think we all could use one. Actually, maybe even three? You can find this beach pillow Here

4.// Obsessing over the color of this adorable little stand, I'd love to see it used by the sink to keep all of your goodies together, or even to display some pretty flowers or candles! Endless uses for this beauty!

5.// These Vintage Spritzer Bottles are so awesome! I love to see them tucked away in vignettes or used on shelves as display! The color makes them the perfect addition to your beachy farmhouse decor! Don't you agree?!

So what do ya'll think about these goodies? Do you think you can combine the two styles together? I'd love to catch up here on on Instagram, so be sure to follow me The Glam Farmhouse over there to stay up to date on what's happening!

Here's to a great summer!
