How To Decorate a Teen Boys Room on a Budget!

Hey babes! Can't believe it's almost August already. I am SO SAD. I know so many of ya'll are ready for Fall but I just ain't into it at all yet. Maybe it's the fact that it felt like Summer took SOOOOOOO long to get here. But I'm just not ready to give up my baby just yet. Savanna starts kindergarten this year and I am just all sort of bent out of shape over it. Nick Jr. will be a junior in high school and it's even crazier to think that he'll be graduating so soon. I'M. NOT. READY.

Speaking of Nick Jr. though, can I just freaking mention how hard it is to decorate a teen boys room these days? They are truly the pickiest human beings I've ever met in my entire life. And I think TEEN BOYS are even worse, because they don't want anything too "childlike" or girly in their spaces. Which I totally get but still.. I need SOMETHING to work with.

Most of you know we recently gutted our entire upstairs (living in a fixer upper, structure issues, etc..) and it was striped down to nothing. It's been an interesting experience living with to say the least, but we're making the best of it, and I'm kind of enjoying it and not feeling so rushed to get a space decorated. Nick's room was probably the worst of all the bedrooms in the house and he was so excited to have a new space.

His only request? He wanted an L shaped corner desk.

During the selection of things for his room, shelving, color scheme, tones, bedding etc, I was 99.9% sure I was going to kill him. True Story. This kid had me SO STRESSED OUT, but eventually we came together and agreed on a few things, like a neutral color scheme that could continue to grow with him, wood tones and nice sturdy furniture he could take with him one day if he choose to do so. During the progress I found myself turning to {walmart} a LOT to find things like shelving, affordable high quality bedding, decor, shelving and more.

I've been crazy obsessed with Wal-Mart lately and their huge selection of affordable home decor. You can't beat the prices and the brand is great for ANY and every budget! For real! If you're on the hunt to find some pieces to update a space, bedroom, game room, bathroom, playroom, Wal-Mart is the place to go!

So without further ado, here are my top tips for decorating a boys room on a budget!

1. Select neutral furniture and accent pieces!

These things will grow with your child and can fit any decor scheme. I picked a neutral gray for his room and love that it matches any decor or color scheme. I like keeping the pieces I spend more money on super neutral so they don't have to be switched out every single time my style changes.

2. Don't be afraid to pattern play!-

For Nick's bed I picked this super comfortable and soft comforter set from Wal-MartI love that it's reversible and can be switched around for a completely different look. The horizontal stripes and vertical stripes on the comforter and the duvet cover keep the look fun and playful without being too immature or childlike and still feels grown up in it's own right.

3. Add Texture-

You can do this with a fun throw blanket with tassels, or possibly even a fun pop of color like mustard with gray and navy. I added some texture and warmth with these throw pillows from Wal-Mart that are insanely well made! The leather texture on the pillow is so soft and gorgeous and it can work in so many different spaces. NOT just this room! I love versatile pieces like that because I can shop my home anytime! Another way to add texture is with {window blinds} and/or wood tones like a small end table, desk or shelving unit.

4. Create a work/play space-

Back when Nick was little we used his closet space as sort of a mini- playroom and kept his dresser where the desk is now. But he wanted his dresser in his closer (makes sense) and his desk in his actual room now. So we opted for this corner L-Desk to save space. I love the wood look of this one and think it adds some warmth to the space. This is where he plays fortnight and also leaves his 20 cups and Taki chip bags. Even though he has a trash can right next to this desk. But that's another post for another day.

5. Removeable Wall-Paper-

We haven't had a chance to instal his accent wall just yet but are working on it! I got this wallpaper from Wal-Mart and plan on adding it behind his bed for some more visual interest.

6. Industrial Shelving-

I still remember when industrial shelves were just becoming a thing and Nick and I had to DIY them, these days you can buy them everywhere, but Wal-Mart seriously has a great selection of shelving! Boys shelving and decor can be tricky, so I just let him have fun with this one, its sold out but I'll link similar! General idea is the same. Everything in his room now has a purpose.

7. Add Greenery-

I've always been big on "bringing a room to life" but opted for faux plants instead of real. Not sure why. These days I opt for real more than faux and I gave Nick his very own baby to take care of. He's been watering it once a week like he should so, so far so good. Wal-Mart has some ah freaking MAYZING faux plants right now though I'll link as well.

So that's it ya'll! 7 Easy ways to decorate a boys room on a budget! I hope it was even just the tiniest bit helpful! I also hope that it helps you not stress as much as I did over this space. Also- is it 5 yet? Mama needs some "juice"...

Hey hey! I'm so excited but also kinda sad, excited because my favorite holiday is coming up, 4th of July, but also a little sad because I can't believe it's approaching so quickly! I wanted to share a few fun drink recipes, and decor ideas this week to get myself and everyone else prepared to celebrate!

I shared this recipe over on my Instagram earlier and figured I'd post it here too so ya'll had something to reference. Sidenote: I'm the messiest cook ever, and there was lots of trial and error happening while I made this.

This dip is suppppper easy and you've probably already heard of it, but adding some candied sprinkles to it can make it feel super patriotic and bump up this classic recipe a notch for your guests! This is also something super easy you can make to take camping, out on the boat, or to the beach. I'm also not a fan of baking really in general so I like making cute and easy things that don't take me forever. This is always a hit!

BAG OF MARSHMALLOWS (I used JUMBO sized but you can use any size you want.)
1 6 PACK bag of Hershey Chocolate Bars
Butter or Crisco
Colored Sprinkles (I used red & blue)
baking pan of your choice
parchment paper
toothpicks or skewer stick
paper towel

Step 1- Preheat Oven to 450 degrees

Step 2- Line a cookie sheet or baking pan with parchment paper, fill a bowl with water (enough to dunk a marshmallow in.)

Step 3. Skewer a single marshmallow on your toothpick or skewer stick, dip in water, blot on paper towel, and over a bowl, sprinkle red sprinkles all over marshmallow until it's completely covered. I used 6 blue and 11 red marshmallows. Repeat this step with blue sprinkles until you have enough marshmallows. It helps to lay out your "flag" before starting the sprinkle process, I used 11 red, and 11 white marshmallows alternating between the two.

Step 4.  Let marshmallows stand for about 10-15 minutes until dry. While they're drying, Prepare your baking sheet with crisco or butter. bottom and sides of pan should be completely covered.

Step 5. Layer chocolate bars along bottom of the pan, I sometimes break them up to fill in empty spaces. You can get creative here and use different things like nutella if you choose!

Step 6. Create your "flag" by alternating red, white and blue marshmallows over to top the chocolate bars and bake for 7-10 minutes until white marshmallows are browned just a bit.

It's seriously so easy and perfect to throw together for any event! It's always a hit!

I ended up pulling mine out of the oven too soon and messed up the top corner of the blue marshmallow, so learn from my mistakes and wait for the marshmallows to cool in the oven before removing!!

TIP: Smores dip is best served warm, so if you want to prepare ahead, I'd do steps 1-5 and wait until company arrives to "bake" it!

So that's it babes! Super easy! if ya'll make it be sure to send me a message or drop a comment for me below! Let's be friends on Instagram too! I hope ya'll hang out for all the fun patriotic content this week! <3

5 of the BEST Water Infusions!

Hey cuties! I hope ya'll had the best weekend! We did a few things around the house outside since it was so nice out on Saturday! We got most of the deck stained and I even ordered some new patio furniture I'm super excited about! I seriously can't wait until it's warm enough for me to be able to be outside again, I miss my plants! ha!

Anyway, totally off topic. I wanted to pop on today really quick to share with ya'll some of my favorite water infusions! I get asked to share every time I share my {water bottle} because it usually has some blend of fruit and/or spice in it. I honestly really don't mind plain ole' water but sometimes fruit infused water is super beneficial and I love the taste so it's a great way to drink more water if you struggle with that!

I really love {this water bottle} I purchased on Amazon about a year ago! I don't love that it's plastic but it does the job okay and it's held up awesome. I really like to drink water through a straw and find I drink more of it than when I don't have a water bottle with a straw, anyone else?

I'm going to share a few of my favorite water infusions in case ya'll are in need of a little push to drink more water during the day! Did you know that the average person should be drinking half their weight in water every single day?! That blew my mind because I was literally drinking half that, but when I increase my water intake I literally feel SO MUCH BETTER! My skin gets clearer, I feel better!

Infusion #1:

Pineapple is an anti-inflammatory and has awesome cleansing properties. It also helps maintain healthy bones and teeth! Mint is great for your digestive system and also awesome if you get frequent headaches

This is by far my favorite water infusion EVER! It's so light and refreshing! I like to use frozen fruit whenever I can because it infuses better, but I will occasionally use fresh pineapple and let it infuse overnight!

Infusion #2:

{you can also add mint or basil to this one!}

Kiwi is great for your skin, and can also reduce blood pressure! It also has lots of vitamin C, E and K! Strawberries are amazing for lots of things, including eye health!

TRUUUUUST ME, it's as good as it sounds;)

Infusion #3:

This is a great detox water and taste super yummy! If you want added Watermelon flavor I suggest mashing a few watermelon cubes in the water. If you're okay with mild flavor, add a few sliced cubes to your water and let sit overnight. I really like using mint on all of my "water infusions" because it's super refreshing to me and also great for cramps!

Infusion #4:

Love this super fruity blend! Since it's really hard to find frozen oranges, squeezing a little orange juice in the water and then infusing over night will give this maximum flavor! I always like to use frozen blueberries when I can, but fresh will also do just fine.

Infusion #5:

Great for water weight management and appetite control, I drink this mix a lot when I know I'll be doing a really tough workout because it aids in hydration!

You don't have to mix! Sometimes, water is great infused with just ONE thing. You really can't go wrong with cucumber water, lemon water or just plain ole' pineapple water! It's kinda fun mixing together different things, and it keeps me hydrated and motivated to continue drinking water which I sometimes suck at!

I'll update this post as I continue to find and mix blends that infuse well together! Until then, I hope this helps you get started and that it you give it a try!

Thanks so much for hanging out! I hope this post helps for those asking and wanting a few fruit infused water ideas! You can get my water bottle {here}. It's under $17 bucks and worth every penny!

Pantry Reveal & Spring Updates

Hey babes! I'm so excited to share our pantry reveal with you guys today and talk a little bit about some things we've been doing to update our little casa for Spring!

The Home Depot is Nick & I's favorite place to shop anytime we're looking to update things around here. They have a really great selection of on-trend products so we can create a home that's just right for us! They literally are a one stop shop for all our home decor needs- I'm especially impressed with their CUTE Spring decor this year, and it's super affordable too! Winning! Seriously, ya'll need to check out their furniture line! I'm drooling over this gorgeous bed! But more on that later, right now I wanna talk about our first project we completed this year! Feeling all sorts of accomplished!

First, let's take a peek at the before. Fair warning, it's pretty scary. When we first moved in years ago I knew I'd eventually need a pantry, but creating one just never seemed like that much of a priority, mostly because it's not that big a deal and nobody really sees it,  but we've been itching to get some of those "we can do that later" projects finished lately and this was one of them!

Don't see I didn't warn ya!

Anyway, she's looking much better these days!

I have to admit I've been peeping this pattern tile for a minute, I've been wanting to use it so bad but knew it would have to be in a small space because it is SUPER trendy. VOILA! When we decided we needed to update and create a pantry space, I knew just what tile I'd use in here! I choose the black & white ultimately, but the gray is gorgeous also!

I actually got to knock out two birds with one stone in here because something else I've been dying to try is some wall-paper, specifically this one that looks like shiplap and The Home Depot had a HUGE selection! But I went back and forth between the one that looks like shiplap and the one that looks like brick.. I decided on the shiplap because I figured that would be the one ya'll would most want to see and hear feedback on! Along with plenty of other cute home decor finds.

It looks SO legit you guys and literally half the cost and hassle of actual shiplap. It will be easier to remove to if and when the time comes, let's face it, I get tired of things pretty quickly..

We choose a creamy white paint so we picked bleached linen, it has some pink undertones which was honestly perfect because I wanted that to be an accent color in here;) and I wanted things nice and bright in here, I really wanted to keep everything super neutral and let the tile be the star of the show in here.

We debated wooden shelves but honestly, I really like how easy the wire shelving is to take care of and move around as needed. Sometimes I prefer practical to beauty. I've learned the hard way over the years.

You can find the exact wire shelves we have here.

We don't have a ton of space in here so I really don't buy things in bulk, however it is super nice having this space to store things that I can't fit into the cabinets.

I like using baskets to keep things together, similar to what I do everywhere else;)
I love keeping things in clear plastic containers!
LOVE this OXO set that comes in a set of 5 or 10!

The Home Depot had a great selection of those too. I just ordered these for more storage space. They were only 2 for $24!

So that's it! One project finished and 200,585 to go..

I'm so excited to have this project DONE! We seriously have a never ending list of things to do here at our casa, and now that the weather is getting a little bit nicer I'm excited to get them done!

You can shop some of my favorites from The Home Depot here!

I can't wait to hear what you guys think about our little pretend pantry! I love using all the spaces we have in our home! Drop a comment for me below or send me a DM on INSTAGRAM! I can't wait to chat with you cuties!!

{This post is sponsored by The Home Depot, and contains affiliate links, but as always all opinions and thoughts are my own, and I only work with brands I have personal experience with! Thank you so much for your love and support always! I wouldn't be able to do this without you!}

Okay, so we leave for Jamaica in less than a week you guys and I am, as usual, freaking out! I just realized the other day that somehow I completely forgot to buy our airline tickets there, I bought them for the way back but not the way there so I don't even know what happened there, ha. So if you're asking how my life is going, that's pretty much it in a nutshell. I'm a mess ya'll!

MOVING ON. One of the things I get asked about a lot before traveling is "What do you pack in your carry on?"

First off, I'm going to be honest and tell you guys I haven't found a suitcase or travel bag I love just yet, I bought one but it got pretty beat up in less than a year so I don't want to recommend it to you guys. However, this one is on my wish list!

Also note that I'm a total over-PACKER! I try my best not to be but it always ends up with me taking 45 outfits for a 5 day trip. This one time I tried not to overpack but ended up wanting everything I didn't pack so - lesson learned. I'll share some packing tips in the future but today I wanted to share a post about what I pack in my carry-on when traveling!

We travel about 5-6 times a year, so I feel like I've learned a good bit about what I need and don't need. I've also learned it's better to have something and be prepared then to not have it at all.

One of the things that has come in handy is this little zip bag that I keep all sorts of emergency medicine in, Pepto, ibuprofen, Dramamine (I get sick from traveling reallllly easily.) and all of these things have come in handy so many times.

My hair tends to get greasy and limp from traveling so I always like to take a (brush) wet brush and some dry shampoo I also never travel without chapstick and my most favorite hand cream!

A portable charger always comes in handy! Some people like to take books or magazines but I can't read on a plane without getting sick so I skip them. I usually just listen to music and try to take naps, which I also suck at, because I can never relax.

It helps to have a comfy neck pillow and travel blanket

Like I said before some people like to take books to read, or crosswords. I just take my tablet and sometimes my planner and a notebook to jot down ideas and notes that always seem to come to me at the most awkward times. It's always good or handy to have something to "look at" though, especially if you have a long flight!

We typically always fly southwest when we can so we do get those little bags of peanuts or pretzels and a drink, however, there is nothing worse for me then feeling sick or yucky and not having anything to eat or drink. I always buy pretzels, mints and water after going through security to take with me on the plane.

A full list of things I pack:
Travel Wallet
Portable Charger
Flint Lint Roller
Hand Cream
Dry Shampoo
Wet Brush
Wisp Toothbrushes

tip: I always like to "Freshen up" as soon as I land wherever we're going! So I like to take these travel toothbrushes and some deodorant into the bathroom so I can feel "normal" again. I'm not sure why but I just always feel so dirty after being on a plane, which I know is totally weird!

I pack all of these things in my favorite (ez packing) packing cubes! These are my favorite packing cubes hands down! They're expensive but they're so worth it over every other set i've purchased they've held up the longest! I love how sturdy they are and how they keep everything together so I don't feel like I'm digging through a bunch of stuff I don't need. I also use these when packing our clothes!

So that's it! A little peek at what I pack in our carry on and 6 things I think everyone should pack in theirs too! I hope it helps you if you're traveling soon or planning to travel soon!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for always being so sweet and supportive! It seriously means THE WORLD to me!!

How To Remove Soap Scum (naturally!)

(post may contain affiliate links, but as always, all opinions and thoughts are my own!)

Hey babes! It feels like forever since I blogged last and that's probably because it HAS been forever. Sorry. Instagram just makes it so easy to share all the things and I feel like I just totally suck at blogging, honestly.

However, I really wanted to start getting back into the swing of things since it is really good to have a place for you guys to reference when you need something! Today I'm sharing a super simple "recipe" for removing soap scum from glass and showers in bathrooms. Super exciting stuff ya'll I'm tellin' ya. But lots of you guys said you wanted more cleaning tutorials so here I am! Just giving the people what they want! HA!

You don't need a ton of stuff for this but just a heads up- it can get messy and it can be time consuming, but it's worth it, I promise! I haven't found another method that gets rid of soap scum so quickly!

1 CUP EPSON SALTS (I used this)
1/2 CUP baking soda (literally use this for EVERY.THING.)
a sponge
a clean, dry towel
a small mixing bowl

STEP 1:
Mix the first 3 ingredients together in a mixing bowl, it should form a "Scrubbing paste" and be a little thick. If it's too thick, add a TINY bit of water.

Step 2:
In circular motions, take a wet sponge and apply the "paste" to the areas where soap scum is the worst. I did my whole door because it was pretty gross, but you can opt to just work on areas that are really bothering you. (tip: its always good to lay a towel down while applying the paste, it can get messy.)

Step 3:
Let sit for at least 15 minutes or so and then, if you have a removable shower head and can, remove the paste with warm water, it's a lot easier to do this if you have a removable shower head but still manageable if not. Just takes a bit more work. After removing all the soap scum, you can take a wet sponge and remove excess, followed by a clean dry towel.

Step 4:
I always like to follow up with glass cleaner to get things super shiny and sparkling. This glass cleaner is my favorite!

..is there anything better than a good before & after?!

That's it! You're done! I do this about 4 times a year and manage the daily soap scum with the (method shower cleaner) A quick spray a day really does keep the buildup down to a minimum!

I'm always looking for ways to clean with baking soda, it's kinda my jam. If you're into cleaning I highly suggest you stock up on some because it's really awesome for SO many things! Also, bonus tip on the paste- you can also use it as a grout cleaner! ;)

So that's it! Super exciting stuff I know! Don't worry- more cleaning tutorials are coming for those asking. I'm always up for a new challenge so if you have something to clean and are stumped send a message my way!
